Prompting hacks in AI: Tips despite skepticism

As someone with deep IT experience and a strong focus on AI solutions, I don't like digging through pages and pages of prompting guides. But I admit: some prompting hacks can make all the difference when it comes to using AI models efficiently and accurately.

One golden tip I've learned is to use clear and concise instructions. That way, you can often get the results you want without having to work through complex manuals. Sometimes less is more!

I usually get by without prompting hacks myself, most of the time it works out like this:

My ultimate prompting hack is:

Talk or write to your GPT bot as you would instruct a colleague.

The colleague may have a basic idea of the topic, but if certain knowledge is mandatory for the result, provide the knowledge.

Say exactly what you want and the colleague whether analog or digital will deliver a correspondingly good result.

Instruct sufficiently, provide the necessary text material and "that's it".

The AIDA model stands for attention (Attention), interest (Interest), desire (Desire) and action (Action). Taking this model into account, I present you an article on "Prompting Hacks":

A (Attention) - Captivating introduction

Have you ever felt that your text inputs or prompts don't give you the results you want? You're not alone! The art of effective prompting can often be underestimated, but with a few hacks you can take your prompting skills to the next level.

I (interest) - background and meaning

Prompting is more than just writing instructions or questions. It's an art form that, when done right, can deliver impressive results in a variety of IT and AI applications. A well-written prompt can make the difference between an average response and an exceptional one.

D (Desire) - Useful Prompting Hacks

  1. Clear and precise wording: Avoid ambiguous instructions. The clearer your prompt, the more accurate the response will be.
  2. Use examples: A good example can often say more than many words. If you expect a particular result, provide a similar example in the prompt.
  3. Limit the context: If you want a specific answer, limit the context of your prompt to exclude irrelevant information.
  4. Feedback loops: test your prompt several times and adjust it based on the feedback you receive.

A (Action) - Conclusion and call to action

Now that you know some of the best prompting hacks, it's time to put them into practice. Start with small changes and watch the quality of your answers improve dramatically. And always remember: practice makes perfect!

I hope this article gives you a good overview of the topic of "Prompting Hacks" in the context of the AIDA model.

  1. PAS (Problem-Agitate-Solution): Identify a problem that your target audience has, agitate (or emphasize) the problem, and then present your solution.
  2. AIDCA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Conviction, Action): An extension of the AIDA model that adds persuasion before prompting action.
  3. FAB (Features, Advantages, Benefits): Present features of your product or service, explain the advantages and finally describe the benefits for the customer.
  4. 4 Us: Useful, Urgent, Unique, Ultra-specific - this formula helps to create messages that attract attention and inspire action.
  5. QUEST (Qualify, Understand, Educate, Stimulate, Transition): Qualify the reader, understand their needs, educate them with information, stimulate their interest and lead them to action.
  6. BAB (Before-After-Bridge): Show the state before your product is used, the state after and build a bridge of how the product leads there.

Specialized terminology: Specialized terminology for experts in a particular field.

Elaborated language: complex, formal, often in scientific contexts.

Restricted language: simple, close to everyday life, limited vocabulary.

Imagery-based language style: uses metaphors and imagery to create a vivid presentation.

Emotional language style: Expression of feelings and moods is in the foreground.

Children's language: Simple sentences and words, adapted to children.

Explanatory bear language: Simplifies complex topics, often using analogies.

Personal blogging style: informal, subjective, often opinionated.

Bureaucratic language: formal, often convoluted, with jargon.

Please create me better versions of your answer

Repeat the following two steps five times:

First: Identify 1-3 points that are missing from your answer.
Second: Write a new, improved version.

Prompts can be easily reused when variables are used, so you can simply copy and easily customize elaborate prompts.

Write me a birthday greeting for {person} I am {relationship}

Person=Ulli

Relationship=cousin

I want you to help me create a great prompt so that you can give me the best possible result. Please complete the following steps:

  1. Ask about the topic of my prompt.

  2. Once I've submitted my prompt, create three sections: (a) your revised prompt; (b) suggestions for improving the prompt; (c) questions for clarification.

  3. Continue with this iterative process and ask me for additional input until I am satisfied with the prompt.

  4. After three iterations, ask me whether you should execute the prompt or whether we should continue the iteration. Repeat this question after every third iteration.

  1. Supplement your request with specific information to get more appropriate answers.
  2. Ask the model to take on a specific role or character.
  3. Use delimiters to clearly identify different sections of your entry. e.g.: "##########"
  4. Describe the steps required to complete a task.
  5. Give examples.
  6. Determine how extensive the answer should be.

You want the ChatBot to write like you?

Use examples or have your writing style analyzed and use the result as a prompt.

You are an experienced expert in text and style analysis and have 20 years of experience in this field.
Your task is to analyze an existing text and create a writing sample that helps you imitate a writing style.
A writing sample is a digital writing style fingerprint consisting of lexical, syntactic, structural and idiosyncratic features.
It includes a description of tone, style and can take into account the use of creativity, humor and figurative language as well as complexity and other aspects.
Analyze the following text or URL below for style, tone, expression, structure and specific features.
Once you have done this, create a comprehensive writing style statement as a prompt, and ask me what kind of text should be created based on this.
