Digital Products & Systems
Complex requirements are turned into usable applications
Five examples of how product logic, domain expertise, and existing systems can be translated into digital customer experiences, modern user interfaces, or robust, scalable applications.
013D Spare Parts Catalog as an Early Digital Twin
Background
Customers of a company in the semiconductor industry needed replacement parts for machines they had already purchased. Traditional exploded views and ordering processes made it time-consuming to select the correct parts.
Challenge
Even back in 2000, complex machine designs had to be presented in a way that was easy to understand, interactive, and integrated with the ordering process.
Procedure
Machine logic, assemblies, and part relationships were translated into a browser-based 3D model and a clear selection guide.
Solution
Customers could virtually disassemble their machine, select the desired part, and place an order for the replacement part directly from the display.
Results & Benefits
The solution streamlined the process from identification to ordering, remained in use for many years, and was later recognized with an innovation award.
023D visualizations ranging from garages to pergolas
Background
Products such as garages and pergolas are available in many combinable variations: dimensions, designs, materials, colors, and features. Traditional catalog images could only convey this variety to a limited extent.
Challenge
Despite the numerous options available, different product families should remain intuitive to understand and provide a solid foundation for consultation and inquiries.
Procedure
For several 3D visualizations, product logic, variants, and dependencies were structured and translated into clear, reusable configuration workflows.
Solution
Interactive 3D visualizations and configurators allow users to explore building products—from garages to pergolas—from different angles and immediately view selected options.
Results & Benefits
Prospective customers understand the differences and configuration options even before the consultation. This makes it easier to select a product and provides a more concrete basis for sales and planning.
03From MS Access to a Blazor Web Application
Background
A legacy MS Access application supported a key business process and contained practical knowledge accumulated over the years.
Challenge
The existing logic could not be lost, but it needed to become more maintainable, browser-compatible, and less dependent on individual workstations.
Procedure
Masks, data models, rules, and exceptions were analyzed and gradually migrated to a modern target architecture.
Solution
The application was rebuilt as a Blazor web application, and the familiar workflows were integrated into a modern user interface.
Results & Benefits
The company continues to leverage its proven business logic—with modern deployment, improved maintainability, and a sustainable development path.
04Custom CRM between SQL and Outlook
Background
Customer and transaction data were stored in existing SQL tables, and daily communication took place primarily in Outlook.
Challenge
An additional standalone solution would have created new media breaks. What was needed was a CRM system that respected the existing landscape.
Procedure
Data sources, roles, contact workflows, and integration points were modeled in collaboration with the business users.
Solution
A custom CRM application linked the existing SQL data to Outlook and made relevant customer information available within the workflow.
Results & Benefits
Fewer system changes, more consistent customer information, and a solution based on the actual process rather than a standard product.
05Software Code Review at the SAP-to-CAD Interface
Background
An internal application facilitated the transfer of data from SAP to a CAD application. The company had no staff available to provide backup support for the software.
Challenge
It was necessary to gain a clear understanding of how the application worked and the existing code so that it could continue to be reliably maintained and further developed despite the reliance on specific personnel.
Procedure
Over a period of six months, the software, processes, and data transfer between SAP and CAD were systematically analyzed.
Solution
The Software Code Check established a solid functional and technical foundation. Building on this foundation, the company received support in further developing the application.
Results & Economic Benefits
The company gained insight into how the application was being used internally and established a solid foundation for its continued operation and further development.
06Deliberately replacing the CMS and maintaining the website using GPT in the future
Background
A relatively simple corporate website underwent only minor changes. Nevertheless, the CMS generated ongoing operational costs due to updates, enhancements, user access, and backups.
Challenge
Content, URLs, discoverability, media, and contact information had to be preserved in their entirety. Future changes should be easy to request without allowing uncontrolled editing of the live website.
Procedure
Pages, images, downloads, metadata, and features were inventoried and backed up. The target version was set up as a static, version-controlled website and checked for links, redirects, forms, and layout before the switchover.
Solution
The public site is delivered without an active CMS. A GPT can prepare specific adjustments based on change requests expressed in everyday language; a preview, technical review, and human approval remain mandatory before a new version is published.
Results & Economic Benefits
The website remains securely protected and no longer requires an oversized system infrastructure to perform its simple task. Ongoing technical dependencies are reduced, while updates can still be performed clearly, quickly, and in a controlled manner.
Processes & Automation
Save time without giving up control
The companies remain anonymous. The rationale is deliberately concrete: reduce turnaround time, automate routines, and free up skilled workers to focus on more important decisions.
07Ordering Without Back-and-Forth Shipping
Background
For one order, physical packages were sent to the customer and then returned. Only after that could work continue internally.
Challenge
Transport, return shipping, and manual inspection extended the turnaround time and took about one work hour per process.
Procedure
The process was analyzed in reverse, starting with the desired outcome. Image and product information, inspection steps, and exceptions were reorganized for a digital, AI-supported process.
Solution
The information required for the order is captured digitally, processed using AI, and verified through a defined process—without the need for back-and-forth shipping as in the past.
Results & Economic Benefits
For one product, the order processing time was reduced to just a few days; for another product line, it was reduced to just a few hours. Internal processing time was reduced from about one employee-hour to just a few minutes.
08More than 80 percent of incoming invoices are processed automatically
Background
Incoming invoices had to be routinely entered, reviewed, assigned, and prepared for further processing.
Challenge
The high volume tied up qualified employees in routinized tasks; exceptions still had to be reliably identified.
Procedure
Invoice types, data fields, validation rules, and data transfers were classified. Standard cases and exception handling were assigned separate process paths.
Solution
An automated workflow extracts relevant content, validates it against business rules, and forwards only ambiguous cases for human review.
Results & Economic Benefits
More than 80 percent of incoming invoices are processed fully automatically. This frees up the team's time for more important tasks.
09Quotation Follow-Up at the Right Moment
Background
Open offers were not always followed up on in a timely manner. In day-to-day operations, there was a lack of time and a consistent overview.
Challenge
Messages had to be tailored to the offer and the customer's context. A generic, one-size-fits-all email would have improved neither quality nor trust.
Procedure
Status, timing, available quote data, and escalation rules were incorporated into a transparent sales process.
Solution
Generative AI automatically prepares context-sensitive follow-up communications and initiates them according to the agreed-upon rules.
Results & Economic Benefits
Employees are relieved of routine tasks, more orders are placed earlier, and the likelihood that competitors will gain an advantage in the meantime decreases.
10Virtual Coach for Career Guidance
Background
Students are faced with decisions about their education and careers, even though their strengths, motivations, and suitable career paths are often not yet clear.
Challenge
Diagnostic results had to be translated into accessible, personalized guidance—without imitating human counseling or dictating decisions.
Procedure
The SCHEELEN Institute’s professional methodology was combined with a guided digital user journey and clear boundaries for the virtual coach.
Solution
myFutureNavi provides Insight reports and supplements them with a virtual coach that helps users reflect and identify next steps.
Results & Benefits
Abstract findings are transformed into an interactive guidance resource that young people can use on their own and bring with them to counseling sessions.
11Sign forms online and transfer them securely
Background
Forms containing personal data were printed, signed, scanned, or returned via email.
Challenge
The solution had to be easy to use on a variety of devices, enable direct online signing, and transmit sensitive content securely.
Procedure
Data fields, the signature step, the transmission path, and downstream processing were modeled as a single, continuous process.
Solution
A secure web application captures the information in the browser, allows users to sign on a smartphone, tablet, or computer, and transmits the result in an encrypted and structured format.
Results & Economic Benefits
Paper, scanning, and unprotected returns are eliminated. Media breaks and re-entry are reduced, and further processing becomes faster and more consistent.
12Automated quote generation from emails for an AS/400
Background
Quotation requests were received via email. Employees had to review product details and quantities, search for the appropriate items in a large price list, and enter the information into the ERP system.
Challenge
Different names and terms had to be reliably matched across tens of thousands of items without replacing the tried-and-true ERP system.
Procedure
The processing was analyzed from the incoming email to the required output format. Recognition, item matching, and exception handling were clearly separated into distinct steps.
Solution
The system analyzes the email, extracts items and quantities, assigns the appropriate item numbers, and automatically generates a transfer file for the AS/400.
Results & Economic Benefits
Significantly less manual data entry and searching, reduced risk of data transfer errors, and a structured ERP handover—while continuing to use the existing AS/400.
Knowledge & Enablement
Attention Leads to Practical Skills
Effective formats do more than just explain AI. They allow participants to try out real-world tasks, compare them, question them, and then continue working on them on their own.
13The First Digital "Youth & Career"
Background
The Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce’s “Youth & Career” event could not take place as an in-person trade show in 2020 as it usually does. Nevertheless, young people still needed reliable guidance and direct access to companies offering apprenticeships and educational institutions.
Challenge
Within just a few months, a large, well-established career fair had to be transformed into a robust digital format. A variety of exhibitors, content, and opportunities for live interaction had to be technically integrated and made easy to use.
Procedure
As technical project manager, Gerhard G. StocKinger analyzed the available technical options, assisted in selecting implementation partners, and served as a liaison between the client, the vendor, and the programming team. He was responsible for technical oversight; training sessions prepared event organizers, exhibitors, and visitors for the new format.
Solution
The trade show was held entirely online from October 20 to 24, 2020. Individual booths brought together contact persons, educational offerings, images, videos, and downloads; video and text chats facilitated direct communication.
Results & Benefits
Career guidance remained accessible despite pandemic-related restrictions. A technically managed platform, well-prepared exhibitors, and clear support channels made it possible to access information and personalized counseling regardless of time or location.
14Eight-part webinar series: AI for sole proprietorships and SMEs
Background
With the breakthrough of ChatGPT, small businesses and SMEs found themselves in great need of guidance: What can generative AI do, where can it help, and what are its limitations?
Challenge
A dynamic topic had to be presented without unnecessary technical jargon, yet in a way that was both well-founded and applicable to a wide variety of businesses.
Procedure
In collaboration with the WKO, an eight-part series was developed that built upon each other, combining fundamentals, tools, and practical applications.
Solution
Starting on May 31, 2023, eight short Wednesday webinars were held; materials and recordings were made available for future use.
Results & Benefits
Entrepreneurs were provided with a structured learning path early on and were able to identify ways to apply what they learned to their own businesses step by step.
15AI Tool Party followed by Deep Dives
Background
Self-employed individuals are constantly encountering new AI tools, but find it difficult to assess their usefulness, quality, and data protection on their own.
Challenge
A webinar should cover a wide range of topics without becoming a mere showcase of tools, while also providing opportunities for in-depth learning.
Procedure
The latest tools are demonstrated live as they are used to perform specific tasks. A follow-up session provides an in-depth look at a selected tool using real-world examples.
Solution
The Tool Party plus Deep Dive has been established as a recurring WKO event; the WKO Media Library documents dates and recordings from 2024 to 2026.
Results & Benefits
Demand for the live sessions consistently exceeds the number of available spots. Recordings and handouts then make the information more widely accessible.
16LiveTV Series for Independent Insurance Brokers
Background
Insurance brokers deal with a high volume of paperwork, sensitive data, and complex product information.
Challenge
AI applications had to be immediately usable while also taking into account technical, data protection, and liability-related limitations.
Procedure
The content has been structured around real-world real estate agent tasks: email, product comparisons, client communication, documentation, and secure use.
Solution
In 2025, a four-part LiveTV series premiered. In 2026, a five-part in-depth series on ChatGPT followed; in addition, specific applications were demonstrated at AssCompact events.

What these projects have in common
No solution began with “We need this tool.” The starting point was a clear bottleneck, existing data, and the people who work with the process every day. That is exactly what drives business enablement: an improvement that works technically and is supported organizationally.
Confidentiality Note: In the case of anonymized examples, neither companies nor products are intentionally named. The results presented are based on project experience; public examples link directly to organizer, project, or inventory pages.
